I am very disappointed in your comments concerning Cincinnati Public Schools. Especially the comments you have on this video on playing the race card. As a friend I will tell you it sounds very racist. If I were you I would step back and examine some of your recent comments.
Please stop stooping so low and rise to help the Minority Businesses in this City. The Hard Truth as you call it is that Cinti Public Schools nor the City spends money with Minority vendors and that is the Hard Truth and we should all be ashamed of it.
Good to hear from you. Hope you and Stacy are well. I am as disappointed as you if this piece sounds racist, which is absolutely not my intention. However, the insinuation by Smitherman, among others, that CPS is discriminating is rediculous. What political benefit would the school board gain by favoring white contractors over African American ones? In my humble opinion, it is time to choose service providers based on the quality/price of their work, not the color of their skin.
You’re too smart to go down this path like this. Your treatment of the problem (racial preference) ignores white patronage that has operated to exclude minority contractors systemically. The “think white first” paradigm simply has not allowed minority contractors to break through the existing system which “affirms” whiteness first.
Conservatives do more harm to the cause by ignoring this reality and acting as if the only problem is black racial preference. Be balanced and honest to the issue and we will have better outcomes in this area. Come out against your white colleagues and white patronage with the same outrage and moral indignatiion as you do against minorities and others who play the “race card”. This so-called “race card” game has white participants too, and more than you think and acknowledge.
Those are thoughtful comments that I will take to heart. If you look over the other commentaries on this site on other subjects, I think you will see a real commitment to take conservatives to task, along with liberals. Thanks for your response.
I am so glad someone finally had the guts to tell it like it is. I am tired of the double standards. While you’re at it, why don’t you touch on the fact that there is a black Miss America pagent but caucasians aren’t allowed to have a white contest – that would be discrimination. It just doesn’t make sense.
Phil
